OSTEOARTHRITIS DEFINITION:

Arthritis is a general term used when there is inflammation within joints. Osteoarthritis, specifically, cause a breakdown of joint cartilage. It is the form of arthritis and can occur in any joint. The joints most affected include the knees, hips, and spine. However, it can also create damage to the neck, finger, and thumbs. It usually occurs when a joint experiences excessive stress or previous injury.

HOW IS OSTEOARTHRITIS DIAGNOSED?

Osteoarthritis is often a slow developing disease that can be hard to diagnose until it starts to cause pain or debilitating symptoms. Test to confirm a diagnosis in addition to  x-rays, your doctors may use an MRI scan to diagnose osteoarthritis.

The imaging test uses radio waves and a magnetic field to create the image of bone and soft tissue and has the highest diagnostic capability. Other diagnostic tests include a blood test to rule out other conditions  that cause joint pain such as infection. Joint fluid analysis can also be used to determine whether gout or infection is the underlying cause of  inflammation.

OSTEOARTHRITIS TREATMENT :

Osteoarthritis treatment is centered upon symptom management. The type of treatment depends on the severity of your symptoms and their location. Often lifetime changes, over -the -counter (OTC)medication , home remedies will be enough to private you with relief from pain, stiffness and swelling.
